Why it is our Trending Pick
Parents who want fewer videos on vacation but still need a quiet half hour at 35,000 feet should look at the EooCoo LCD writing tablet. It is designed for kids who like to draw, write and doodle, and it suits families who have had enough of crayons on the floor and coloring books that are finished by the time the drinks cart arrives.
The EooCoo LCD writing tablet is our Trending pick among airplane essentials for kids because it fits the current screen-light approach to travel. It is a screen, technically, but one with no apps, no notifications and no blue-lit video. Our editorial research pointed to a Merguez-branded tablet of the same type; the Amazon link sells the EooCoo version, so we describe that one and have flagged the swap. Either way, the appeal is identical: a thin, reusable surface that a child can fill, erase and fill again for an entire flight.
On the plane it works like this. Your child draws a dog, shows you, presses the erase button and starts a maze. Tic-tac-toe with a sibling comes next, then practice letters, then a map of the hotel pool. Nothing needs charging mid-flight, and it slides into the seat pocket in seconds. It also handles the restaurant wait on vacation and the car ride to the airport.
The drawback is that LCD tablets erase everything at once, so a masterpiece is gone the moment someone bumps the button, and there is no way to save drawings. Some models include a lock switch; check the Amazon listing for that feature and for the battery type. Skip it for very young toddlers who mainly want to scribble with real crayons.

Does the EooCoo LCD writing tablet need to be charged?
No. LCD writing tablets of this type run on a small internal battery that lasts a very long time and is not recharged like a phone. Check the Amazon listing for the battery type and whether it is replaceable before you buy.
Can a child accidentally erase a drawing on the plane?
Yes, the erase button clears the entire screen at once. Some versions include a lock switch to prevent accidental erasing. Check the Amazon listing to see whether the EooCoo model you are viewing has that feature.
Is an LCD writing tablet allowed through airport security?
Yes. It is a simple battery-powered device with no restrictions beyond standard TSA rules, and it does not need to be removed from your bag. Keep the stylus attached, since replacements are easy to lose in transit.
